Welcome to Hild Bede from The Principal,

Professor Simon Forrest

My congratulations to all our new membersSimon Welcome 2 of the mighty College of St Hild and St Bede or as we know and love it, Hild Bede. It is exciting to be welcoming you to College. I send you the warmest of welcomes to what I hope will be some of the happiest, most stimulating and exciting times of your life. We are a College of long history, one patterned by conviction and purpose: the first in Durham to see women awarded degrees; the first to elect our student leadership and Council; a place that resourced education in the North-East and beyond through teacher training; and, with a tradition of volunteering and community engagement. We are also a 'home from home', a place with a long history and a big heart that welcomes people from all backgrounds and places who enrich our community as you flourish.

Hild Bede is unique in that our students are not represented by a JCR but the SRC. This elected body represents and serves both undergraduate and postgraduate members.

Your first week in Durham – Welcome and Orientation Week Events Timetable

The Timetable has been designed so Hild & Bede events don’t clash with any of your academic departmental events, but offer you lots of opportunities to meet your fellow Freshers, find your way around and settle into student life.

To help you keep track of where you need to be, and what you need to do during your first busy days at university, in Hild & Bede and your Department, we have created a day-by-day University Induction Planner. This should help you to plan your schedule, so you don't miss anything - from being issued with your Campus Card or meeting the staff in your Department, to trying out for a sports team or joining a student society.
