The award panel meets once each term, and decisions are usually communicated within three weeks of the application deadline.

Terms and Conditions

  • Eligible costs include conference fees, travel, accommodation and subsistence and other reasonable expenditure related to the research activity.
  • Applicants may only receive one award from the Fund per academic year.
  • If the total cost to be considered is less than £250, then any successful award will be made to the value of the lesser amount.
  • Travel and other expenditure under the grant must take place/be incurred before the next term’s deadline for applications. Retrospective applications will not normally be considered. The panel meets once every term.
  • Successful applicants must submit an article (500-1000 words) about their research activity, with photos, which may be published in the College magazine and online blog, The Ustinovian, and on the College website. University student
The ArkLight Travel and Research Award allowed me to attend the BRISMES annual conference, this year titled under the theme 'Liberation' and a key part of the discipline's calendar. It allowed me to test my formative argument about surveillance and political violence in front of a knowledgeable crowd, and improved my confidence in an idea that I believe could have important implications for human rights research in the future.
