Facilities and Equipment
Our departmental facilities include a suite of well-equipped laboratories, a workshop, an extensive field equipment store and a cartographic unit, all of which are overseen and supported by a team of dedicated technical staff.
Our laboratories facilitate world class research and are used extensively in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. Over the past few years, £1.7 million has been invested in new, cutting-edge equipment in the Geography Laboratories. The department’s workshop supports teaching and research activities, manufacturing equipment and managing our extensive field equipment stores. Our equipment is available for loan to undergraduate and postgraduate geography students, and members of geography staff. Our cartographic Unit provides a wide range of design, reprographic, print, photographic and audio visual services. This unit supports research and teaching throughout the University. Some of our services are available for contract work to those outside of Durham.
Please contact the Senior Manager, Dr Eleanor Ross ([email protected]), if you wish to discuss laboratory services and get in touch with the cartographic unit ([email protected]) for cartographic enquiries.
