  • Applicants to Faculty of Business and Economics must have a grade level of B average / CGPA 3.0 / Satisfactory level.

Law students are strongly encouraged to achieve an average of 65% in their first year for admission to the Faculty of Law. Applicants who achieve 60-64% will be expected to provide an academic reference letter, but there is no guarantee of acceptance.

Courses offered in the Faculty of Business and Economics are highly competitive and limited.

Some Faculties at HKU require students to have a minimum GPA (or equivalent Durham grades) in the relevant subject area before being accepted.

All courses, except those offered in the School of Chinese are taught in English.

Subject to availability, exchange students may take up to 2 courses in Cantonese/Mandarin.

Accommodation

Students are required to submit an application for accommodation at HKU. Students are not guaranteed to be offered on campus accommodation. Students who stay in on campus halls of residence are required to pay a compulsory meal charge. The costs of accommodation and meals for the year would be roughly $23,000 HKD (depending on exchange rate, roughly £2000).

Full information on all accommodation options can be found on the CEDARS webpage.

Other Information

Students must arrange health and accident insurance for their time in Hong Kong. HKU recommends Federal Insurance Company but students can email [email protected] for more advice and information.

Summer Opportunities

HKU offers a fee paying Summer Institute programme which offers a wide variety of programmes throughout the summer period. The cost of the Summer programme depends on how many courses students would take. These programmes allocate credits but this does not mean that Durham University would allow students to bring these credits back into their Durham degree programme.

More detailed information can be found on our Summer Schools webpage.
