Flourish@Durham is enabled through the University's Research Culture Committee, sub-committee of the University Research Committee. Research Culture Committee's role is to support the broader University research environment and culture to ensure that the research strategy is delivered not just with a focus on outcomes, but that due consideration is given to the processes and ways in which those outcomes are achieved and the maintenance of a fair, transparent and positive culture for all those involved in research including the faculty body, research participants, partners, collaborators and other stakeholders.
The Open Scholarship Working Group has been set up as a working group of Research Culture Committee to lead on the development of a forward- thinking vision for Open Scholarship at Durham. The University holds a strong global position in providing open access to our research outputs but in line with our wider vision for research culture we need now to move beyond compliance with funder requirements to articulate a strong vision for Open Scholarship. This includes ensuring we have robust processes for widely sharing knowledge produced at Durham, including open access for publications, research data and other research outputs intellectual property and responsible metrics. Incentivising excellent Open Scholarship will also be part of a wider Research Culture review of reward and recognition in relation to promotion and progression processes at Durham.
Developing a positive research culture requires collaboration across our research environment. Flourish@Durham is part of broader developments in culture across our University.
